Brief Information to the Audience

The vision of Salale Journal of Social and Indigenous Studies (SJSIS) is to be one of the most preferable journals in Africa with the mission of disseminating quality publication to the wider readership. The journal, which is hosted by the College of Social Sciences and Humanities of Salale University, is an open access peer-reviewed journal published in both printed and online versions (the online version is free to publish, to access and download). It is published two times in a year (August and February). It aims at providing a platform for the research community to share their findings, insights and views about all aspects of Social Sciences and Indigenous Studies.

The journal accepts the research papers from the diverse fields of social sciences, indigenous studies (languages, humanities) and allied disciplines. The quality research in the areas of applied linguistics, communication, public relations, media studies, environmental studies, cultural studies, education, psychology and related fields, is also invited for its publication in the journal. Papers can be submitted in the form of full-length original research, review articles, book reviews, pilot studies, commentaries, editorials, policies, news and comment, or letters to editor. While the number of articles per issue is five to seven, articles written in one of three languages (English, Amharic and Afan Oromo) can be published, thus, it is a trilingual journal. Language editor/s/ is/are assigned for the articles written in each of the three languages considering the standardized usage of each language.

Submission: Manuscripts should be submitted in an A4 paper in single spacing (for cost minimization of the printed version). Each paragraph must be separated by space, and the space between paragraphs must be single.

Margin: The margin size is 1.5 inch from the left and 1 from right, top and bottom.

Online Submission: To facilitate the rapid publication and reduce administrative costs, SJSIS       accepts only electronic submissions in word. Manuscripts must be submitted online       by logging in through the University website.

 Article Length:

  • Original manuscripts should not exceed 8,000 words.
  • Book review and article review should not exceed 3000 and 5000 words respectively.
  • Editorial preferably consist of no more than 1,500 to 2,000 words and usually do not have sub-headings.
  • Short communication should not exceed 4 pages.

Title: The title should be concise, short and informative.
